Description
Location. Built in 1950, the grandiose Westin Palace hotel in Milan, Italy, is located within two kilometres of the Duomo cathedral, the fashion district and La Scala opera house. The Navigli canals and Fiera exhibition centre are three and a half kilometres from the hotel.
Hotel Features. The Westin Palace hotel has a red marble facade and carpeted lobby decorated with Roman style pillars.
Light yellow walls and carved lute style chairs furnish the Casanova Grill restaurant, which serves specialities such as beef carpaccio with white truffles. The restaurant hosts seafood evenings and live piano music. A wood panelled section at one end, with fireplace and bookshelves, is available for hire. Drinks and light meals are served at the marble bar of the Lounge Bar, which has a chandelier, fountain and red sofas.
The hotel has 13 meeting rooms over three floors for up to 400 people, and a business centre. Wireless Internet access and complimentary newspapers are available.
The hotel's fitness centre has a fully equipped gym, two Turkish baths and a steam room. Three private rooms offer beauty and massage treatments.
Guestrooms. Mahogany furniture and champagne tone walls decorate the Westin Palace hotel's climate controlled, soundproofed guestrooms. Rooms are accessed via private hallways and feature engravings or 19th century wall fabrics and antique style mirrors. Guestrooms have satellite television, dial up Internet ports (surcharge), minibars and complimentary newspapers. Marble bathrooms offer luxury bathrobes, slippers and complimentary toiletries.

Getting there. Taxis to central Milan cost about 65 EUR 75 EUR. The Malpensa Express train runs every 30 minutes between the airport's train station and the city centre (Cadorna station). Single tickets are approximately 9 EUR, and journey time is 40 minutes. The Malpensa shuttle bus runs to Stazione Centrale (central station) every 20 minutes. The fare is 4.50 EUR and journey time is 20 minutes. Shuttle services to other destinations, including Turin and Genova, are also available. Prices are all subject to change.
Getting around. The hotel is on Piazza Della Repubblica. The city centre is easy to explore on foot, and there are pedestrianised areas around the Duomo. A comprehensive network of trams, buses and four metro lines offers efficient travel throughout the city. Integrated tickets for all modes of public transport can be purchased at newsagents, metro stations, tobacconists, and most coffee bars. The hotel's closest metro stop is Repubblica. Driving is not recommended in Milan's city centre. There are many one way streets, traffic is heavy, and parking is limited. Cars parked illegally are towed or fined. Parking is available at the hotel (surcharge).
